Layoffs at John Deere Harvester Works

09/11/2009

John Deere Harvester Works will have a manufacturing slow down in September. Deere & Company has announced the indefinite layoff of 367 manufacturing employees at the East Moline, Illinois factory, and there will be further cuts in production.

The John Deere Harvester Works manufactures combines and front-end equipment for harvesting. Reduced market demand for the factory’s products was cited as the driver for the decision.

The layoffs will take effect by the end of the month. Deere said the layoffs will affect production workers with the least seniority. Consistent with earlier projections, most of the remaining manufacturing employees at Harvester Works will start four weeks of inventory adjustment shutdown and two weeks of vacation shutdown on September 21st.
